PASSION PROJECT: Metal Sculpture
Keith Johnson began his career in the visual effects industry in 1986, working as a camera operator and computer graphics animator/layout artist at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Over a distinguished 30-year tenure with ILM, he contributed to numerous iconic films, including Jurassic Park, Battleship, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
After retiring from ILM, Keith shifted his focus to his passion for metal sculpture. Drawing inspiration from nature - forests, rivers, coastlines, and his global diving experiences - his sculptures reflect his love for human forms and natural elements. Utilizing materials such as steel, stainless steel, copper, and bronze, he employs techniques like oxy-acetylene torch heating, plasma cutting, and MIG welding to create pieces that are both exhilarating and meditative.
For Keith, the process of working with metal is a deeply calming way to create, combining the thrill of the craft with a profound connection to the world around him.
